An unconventional love story, WOODEN HORSE captures the tumultuous relationship between an artist and their creation – as told from the perspective of the creation – a wooden horse.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

The relationship between an Artist and their Creation is deeply intimate. When an Artist creates, they give up a piece of their soul. It’s the process of creation– the act of giving birth. The film explores the inner-workings of that relationship, specifically from a woman’s perspective. Women have so much conflict and external demand on their time that the act of giving birth to art becomes more and more challenging. This is especially true as they make the wonderful, yet difficult choice to have children.

WOODEN HORSE was made in recognition of all the creatures and dreams left forgotten on the shelf by so many incredible women.

Preliminary Story Boards rendered in real-time as Director, Emily Sheehan, & artist, Katherine Rich, discussed the opening sequence of the film.

Camera Operator, Andrew Fewsmith, & Lead Actress, Victoria Blade, take a break between set-ups.

Preliminary boards drafted by Cinematographer, Tom Hernquist, to sketch out the difficult “time-passes” sequence.
